Airsoft CO2 GunsAll gas Airsoft guns use a pressurized gas that generates the necessary energy to propel the BB from the chamber. One of the most common (and powerful) gases used is CO2, or carbon dioxide. Although there are a number of larger Airsoft CO2 guns, the majority of such weapons fall into the handgun category. Usually the gas tank, or reservoir, is hidden in the gun's handle, maintaining the replica's visual integrity.
A number of CO2 guns offer what is known as "blowback." This process occurs when the same gas that is used to propel the BB from the chamber also pulls the slide back into position. This eliminates the need for having to manually re-cock the gun before every shot, as with spring guns. Blowback Airsoft CO2 guns are the ones that offer semi-auto and full auto firing modes.
A number of Airsoft CO2 guns let you adjust the BB velocity. When less gas is allowed in the chamber, the reduced pressure limits the gun's power. The reverse increases it. Of course, every gun has its limitations and it's always important to check with each manufacturer's specifications.
